Palladium
Investing in Palladium
An overview of palladium's use, rarity, and role in precious metals diversification.
When most people think of precious metals, gold, silver, and platinum usually come to mind. Palladium is less familiar, but it has gained popularity as a viable hard-asset investment.
Palladium is part of the platinum group of metals. It is often thought of as a less expensive alternative to platinum, and much of its demand comes from industrial applications.
Palladium can be used in catalytic converters and electronic devices, and it is sold to investors as ingots and bullion coins. For jewelry, palladium is often alloyed with gold and marketed as white gold.
Because palladium supply and demand differ from gold and silver, it can add another source of diversification to a precious metals portfolio.
